Arcane Concordance

The Arcane Concordance is a very small group of mages living in nations around the Merchant Sea area. It is said to be comprised primarily of the most powerful mages of the age and purportedly meets to conspire regarding the influence of magic in nations and societies around the known world. According to popular gossip, the Concordance is also responsible for maintaining a secret police force that intervenes where conventional authorities have difficulty stepping in – specifically with regards to the use of magic.

Of course, how much of this is true is unknown, but such rumors as exist presently are based on the confessions of Sarah Am’Kolif – a Nada’Athi woman who was tried, convicted, and executed for murdering a member of the Lu Paei family in 1643. According to her confession at trial, she had acted on the orders of a superior within an organization known as the Arcane Concordance. Purportedly her victim had been researching a ritual meant to return locomotion to the dead en mass – however as she burned the victim’s spell book and research notes she could present no more evidence than her own word on this. She confessed that the Arcane Concordance had been responsible for numerous executions of unscrupulous magic-users in more than five nations, but refused to state which mages, which countries, or name any other members except to say that “together, we few are stronger than any nation.”

Rumors have abounded for years since about the Concordance and most nations have formally enacted laws or decrees outlawing “the Arcane Concordance or any organization similar thereto in its supposition of authority which it has no right to wield.”
